An employee at the motel in Destruction Bay claimed 4 bikers were injured last week, and one had to be flown to the U.S. for medical care.
We figured by now, the road must be packed down and not that bad, as long as it isn't raining. If it's raining, we wait, so our plan included getting out early before any weather system developed.
We departed Destruction Bay at 9:00 am (early for us!).
Yesterday, Mick prepared for the road construction.
It was 52 F shortly after we left.
A new record low.
We spied another bear cub along side the road.
Where’s mom?
We rode through several long patches of “loose gravel” before we arrived at the main construction zone.
After 80 miles of gravel patches, we finally arrived at the official construction zone.
This was the worst of it. Not all that bad.
It could be worse!
The second major section.
Not so bad.
Although not particularly daunting, the 86 kms of loose gravel patches that followed became a pain.
The Border!!
Do you have any fire arms in your possession?
We made it!

More Mick's weeds:
Thorns
Mick just finished “admiring” his weeds.
Harley Rider at rest stop.
Had a bad day.
Almost went down 4 times in the road construction . . .
. . . and had to sing the Star Spangled Banner to get through customs!
Brand new family!
How did this northen pike get here?
Hungry Seagull.
We finally saw a Moose!!
Left over ice on river - must have been thick.
And at the end of the day . . .
. . . Riding into the Daylight.
Best we can do up here!

I'm beginning to realize that a necessary skill for riding to Alaska is the ability to take photos left-handed, wearing gloves, while riding. Guess I better start practicing! But I don't think I will ever be able to "admire" those weeds.
