Day 17: Skip and a Jump to Whitehorse . . . and Skagway!

It rained most of the night in Destruction Bay.  We were hoping some of the dust from the day’s gravel would be washed away, but that didn’t happen.

I did take advantage of how close the room was to the parking lot to charge the battery overnight.

We left Destruction Bay in route to Whitehorse at 11:20 am, after having a leisurely breakfast in hopes of waiting out the rain.

That didn’t work, more rain . . .

 . . . and gravel . . .

 . . and rain . . .

. . . and Kluane Park.

It takes your breath away every time you see it!

According to Mick, the water appears a different color blue depending upon the dissolved solids coming from the glacier.

I don’t know what I’m going to do without him the next couple days.

Looks great from behind too!

Arrival in Whitehorse at around 3:30 pm.

Mick will be parking his bike to save tires until our jaunt to Haines on Wednesday.

Road sign picture Contest:

And we have a winner!!

Kd comments:  “the bridge freezes before the road”.

Sorry Bill, it’s not slippery when wet or “if you can read this sign your too close!”

Just putting air in the tire!

I need to talk to Victory about this one

After getting air, a guy with a 1983 V65 Honda stopped in.

This is the same basic bike that I rode to Hyder, Alaska in 2005.

After “consulting” with the young man (the bike was older than him),  I decided to go the Skagway to make up the side trip skipped on Day 10.

Solo side trip to Skagway

I decided to take an extra rest stop at Bove Island.

One of the more impressive views I’ve seen yet.

I actually liked the mountain next to the island best and how it reflected in the still lake.

More new wallpaper for my computer!

Now that’s a picture!!!

Road to Skagway Called the White Pass

Heading up to White Pass, also known as Dead Horse Pass.

Entering Alaska once more!!

Downtown Skagway.

I did take some pictures coming down the pass on the Alaska side of the border, but they didn't turn out.  I guess I was too fast on the trigger.  The road was very crooked and steep, and I'm terrible at multi-tasking.

At the marina in Skagway.

No ships in port today.

Heading back to Whitehorse, with a new angle.

And at the end of the day . . .

 . . . Riding into the sunset.
