Day 27: The Loneliest Road

We departed Reno, Nevada at approx. 10:30 am local time.  We did find the Americana Café open in the Circus Circus hotel and had a nice breakfast before leaving.  Our goal:  Delta, Utah.

We took I-80 out of Reno.  It was a nice ride, while it lasted.

Approx. 30 miles into the day’s ride, we turned onto Hwy 50.

I didn’t know this at the time, but this road is known as “The loneliest road in America”.  How silly . . .

This is a dry lake bed on the “lonely road”.

We stopped at Fairview rest stop on the “lonely road”.

There weren’t a lot of rest stops to choose from and no shade anywhere.

This rest stop had some very loose gravel, around six inches deep, to trap unsuspecting bikers that might be traveling the “lonely road”.

It also had a very nice view.   A “lonely rest stop” off the “lonely road”.

Nobody ahead of us on the “lonely road”. . .

. . . and nobody behind us on the “lonely road”.

We did see some lonely sand dunes on the “lonely road”. . .

. . . and a couple lonely cyclists (and stupid!) on the “lonely road” . . .

. . . and a lonely work crew on the “lonely road”.

Mick found a lonely, but lovely, bug smashed on his tank bag, no doubt, from the “lonely road”.

We also got to experience some newly tarred and graveled "lonely road" construction.

Mick said he saw a lonely Rattlesnake along side the road.  It launched at Mick, after I roused him going by, but it missed.

We decided to eat lunch in Eureka, since we had not seen anyone all day. There were so few people, we thought the ones we see should be the “Friendliest" on the Loneliest Road in America.

Plenty of parking spaces available, right in front of the restaurant.

After lunch, back to the “lonely road”.

This road was so lonely, there were not even any clouds in the sky, for miles and miles.

No shade anywhere, on the “lonely road”.

At 4:32 pm, West Coast time, we reached a high temperature of 94 F, a new record for the day, and for the trip, and for the “lonely road”.

A CLOUD!!!!   SHADE ON THE “LONELY ROAD”!!!!

We had our last pit stop, right around sunset near this lonely lake along the “lonely road”.

Later, when we reached the motel in Delta, I realized I had kicked off my butt pad (air hawk) getting on the bike when we were leaving the rest stop.

With expected to rise in days ahead, this was very bad.  My Air Hawk . . .  Lost on “Loneliest Road in America”.

And at the end of the day . . .

. . . Riding out of the “lonely” sunset.
