Day 9: A Long Short Day

Today we traveled to Whitehorse, beginning from Watson Lake, Yukon.  We planned this day to be a relatively short ride so we would have time to change oil and do laundry.  We were also hoping to catch up on the Blog, since we have had problems with wireless signal strength for the past two nights.

Sign Post Forest

People bring their signs from home to add to the collection.

Our first “luxury” rest stop of the day.

Had a nice view in this direction . . .

. . . and some “Rock Graffiti” in this direction.

Just checking!

Grate bridge.  Makes you Squirm.

This is the famous Testlin Bridge which is a terror to motorcyclists because it is so long and the front tires 'drift' on the grating.

“Self Portrait”

One second he is here . . .

. . . and the next, here!

Skirting the “Edge of the Storm”

Do I feel Lucky?

No.

A little bit of scenery for you nature buffs

Time to change the oil

We also did laundry at the coin-up machines, along with too many other people with the same idea.   I would show you pictures of our dirty clothes, but I wasn’t in the mood.

And at the end of the day . . .

When will you be finished with the dryer?

Day 8 A Day to Remember!

We departed Buckinghorse River this morning at approx. 9:30 am local time.

Make that 9:45 am.  Mick dropped his glasses back at the motel parking lot.

After miles of rather boring scenery the previous few days, the scenery on the Alaska Highway’s second 430 miles is much more impressive.

Got it!!

Whoops!!

Just north of Ft. Nelson, I was turning around on the two lane highway and slipped off the shoulder.  I got cocky and was trying to make the turn too fast.

I told Mick to take pictures first, then, see if I’m alright.  He never listens.

The bike came right up no problem.  There was no damage to the bike and I was not harmed, except for my ego.

Time to ride!

Animals

We observed many animals during the next few hours ride.  So many, we got tired of taking pictures and just started pointing at them.  Several times they were on the road and traffic was stopped or slowing down to avoid them.

Bears are omnivores – I guess this one is eating omni by the road

We saw over 2 dozen like this at the side of the road

Whoever is posting these signs, knows what their doing!

Also mountain sheep

After dodging lots of animals and a little rain . . .

. . . it was time for some relaxation.

Tropical climates in the Yukon!!!

Long walk over the hot marsh.

This was the “hot” end.

This was our cooler end  (Still Hot!).

No.  We did not ask someone to take our pictures in the water!

Air dried swimming suit!

And at the end of the day . . .

Riding into the sunset . . .

Day 7: Wind Chill!!!

Due to internet connection problems, we have had some delay in posting.  Please be patient, we haven't given up.

We left Whitecourt around 10 am in route to Buckinghorse River.

Mick was in a good mood because we both received $10.00 Esso gas gift cards for staying at the Lakeview Inn in Whitecourt.  Mick highly recommends the motel if your ever in the area!!!

It was 56 F when we left Whitecourt.
The High was 63 F.

We drove directly into a strong headwind all day.

Sometimes the wind was coming from the side

“Wind swept” cig butts six inches deep in the bucket.   You should have seen the look on the guys face watching me take this picture!

First “Alaska” sign!!
